Students arrived with big smiles, eager to reconnect with friends and meet their new teachers and support staff. The school buzzed with positive energy as classes built routines and norms, toured the school, engaged in fun activities, and connected on the school yard. Staff worked hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, helping everyone settle in smoothly. The short week was filled with moments that reminded everyone why Bayridge is such a special place to learn and grow. It’s clear this year is off to a great start!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">LDSB Mission, Vision, Path Forward</h2>The LDSB's mission, vision and path ford is:To make a positive difference in the lives of every student, in every class, every day. Our plan is to do just that! We are excited to embark on this journey of learning with you as family partners this year. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school at any time.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Open House</h2>Our Open House is on Thursday, October 9th from 4:30-6:00 pm. From 4:30-5:30 you can meet your student's teacher, visit the classroom, tour the school, and visit Scholastic Book Fair (our school Fundraiser with SAC). Please schedule a time to meet with the teacher should you require a meeting. From 5:30-6:00 we are showing families how we "recess" and how we use our <a href="https://witsprogram.ca/programs/wits/" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">WITS</a> (Walk Away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help). We encourge families to play our pavement and field games while modelling sportsmanship, co-operation, and fun!<img src="/images/8870b2f7-fc44-459c-95ba-ad3a25a79732?fingerprint=ppb20251217014249" alt="Recess" width="198" height="187" style="width:198px;height:187px;display:inline-block">The following day, Friday, October 10th is a PA Day which means no classes for students while staff engage in professional development to support student learning and well-being. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Intensive Support Teacher's Classroom - The Bear Den</h2>Mrs. Laird's classroom (The Intensive Support Teacher's Classroom) is known as The Bear Den. All students are welcome in this classroom. Many of our students access this amazing space throughout the day, including our students with complex special needs who may require alternative programming. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Bus Patroller Training (Bus Riders in Grades 6-8) </h2>Tri-Board has organized a school bus to bring our students and supervisor to and from the training session at W.J. Holsgrove on September 11th from 9:50-1:00. This is for students in Grades 6-8 who would like to support younger students on the bus. A First Student (Kingston) bus will arrive to BPS at approximately 9:50 AM and return students to school after the training session, at approximately 12:30 PM. Interested students should register on School Day!Indoor Presentation:Our trainer will conduct a 45-60 minute presentation that teaches students about the various roles and responsibilities of being a Bus Patroller.Outdoor Bus Experience:The on-bus training takes place outside so please remind students to dress for the weather. Students will be provided a Bus Patroller vest and guidebook once they complete training.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">Karate Kids® Program (Tallack Martial Arts) </h2>Bayridge Public School is pleased to announce that the popular Karate Kids® program will be starting on Thursday, September 18th, 2025! Karate Kids is a weekly LUNCH-TIME fitness and character-building class that is open to all Grade 1-5 students. The program runs every Thursday from September 18th, 2025, to January 2026, during the second recess in the gym.On Monday, September 15th, the Karate Kids instructors will visit classrooms during their nutrition break to share information about Karate Kids!<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: start;">ABOUT KARATE KIDS®:</h3>Celebrating its 24th year, Karate Kids is a Board of Education approved program that started right here in Kingston! Karate Kids is a low-cost and convenient lunchtime program designed to bring the benefits of Martial Arts, physical activity, and character development to children. Taught by professionally trained instructors of Tallack Martial Arts, this non-contact and non-competitive activity is a fantastic way to encourage kids to be active while learning and having fun! Your child will have a blast learning karate while making new friends!Karate Kids helps develop confidence, focus, and fitness in a fun environment. As a result, the climber is CLOSED before, during, and after school hours. We have currently reached out to LDSB Facility Services to get pricing to remove the unsafe rubber and install mulch. Thank you for your patience and understanding. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Main Office</h2>Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Thank you.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Medical Plan of Care</h2>If your student had an existing Medical Plan of Care, we sent home blank copies of all of the necessary documents with report cards in June! If you require new medical documentation, please visit <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/policies-procedures" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">https://www.limestone.on.ca/policies-procedures</a> under Section 300 (Student Related Forms) for Medical Forms or reach out to the office for a copy of the documents. Any questions, please email <a href="mailto:bayri@limestone.on.ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="editor-link">bayri@limestone.on.ca</a>. We are happy to support families with their completion if needed. Medication needs to be brought in/signed off by caregivers and not sent in student backpacks. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Data Verificaton Forms & Computer Use Agreement</h2>Hard copies of Data Verification Forms will be sent out in September to ensure we have the most up to date information in our Aspen database. If your contact information has changed over the summer, please provide us with an update via email before the start of school. A walking permission form will be sent out the first week via School Day while we wait to send home Data Verification forms. Families who have a student in JK or are new to BPS will receive a secure match key in order to access School Day. Each year, we require families to sign off on our Computer Use Agreement in order for their students to access technology. This will be sent out on School Day in early September. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Lunchbox Lunch Program</h2>We will be using Lunchbox for our Lunch Program for efficiency of ordering and delivering. You are welcome to create an account and explore the <a href="https://www.lunchboxorders.net/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="editor-link">www.lunchboxorders.net</a> site now. We are currently working with Lunchbox to source vendor and food options for Mondays. We have Edo Japan (bowls and sushi) on Wednesdays and Gino's (pizza and chicken fingers) on Fridays). Milkshake days can still be ordered on School Day at this time.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Food Share Program</h2>We will be offering the Food Share Program to all of our classes. All students can access this program. Please reach out if your student has dietary restrictions. More information will follow about Grade 7 & 8 students leaving school property for lunch and the Grade 6-8 breakfast program. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Indoor Shoes</h2>Over the summer, our gym floor gets waxed so that it is ready for programming and play. We ask that families provide their students with indoor and outdoor shoes. Non-marking soles are a must when accessing the gym. Proper footwear is required to prevent injury in the physical education program. Thank you for preparing your student for success!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Service Dogs</h2>Only service dogs are allowed on school property - this is standard practice across the Limestone District School Board in order to keep you, your dog, and staff and students safe. Owners with dogs without visible identification will be asked to leave school property. The office calls home for all students who have a head injury/suspected concussion. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, September 3rd. School starts at 9:05 am and staff will be outside ready to greet students at their line up spot beginning at 8:50 am. There will also be vested staff present on the pavement to help students locate their class. Attendance will be taken once all classes head inside with their teachers. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Main Office</h2>Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. The office will be covered for an hour throughout the day. You can email us at bayri@limestone.on.ca or call 613-389-6900. Emails and phone messages will be answered within 48 hours. Please note Tuesday, September 2nd is a PA Day - there is no school for students. As always, starting class placements are subject to change if actual enrolment numbers require school reorganization. There has been lots of care, consideration, and collaboration with staff when working on class placements.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Medical Plan of Care</h2>If your student had an existing Medical Plan of Care, we sent home blank copies of all of the necessary documents with report cards in June! If you require new medical documentation, please visit <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/policies-procedures" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">https://www.limestone.on.ca/policies-procedures</a> under Section 300 (Student Related Forms) for Medical Forms or reach out to the office for a copy of the documents. Medication needs to be brought in/signed off by caregivers and not sent in student backpacks. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Data Verificaton Forms & Computer Use Agreement</h2>Hard copies of Data Verification Forms will be sent out in September to ensure we have the most up to date information in our Aspen database. If your contact information has changed over the summer, please provide us with an update via email before the start of school. A walking permission form will be sent out the first week via School Day while we wait to send home Data Verification forms. Families who have a student in JK or are new to BPS will receive a secure match key in order to access School Day. Each year, we require families to sign off on our Computer Use Agreement in order for their students to access technology. This will be send out on School Day in early September. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Lunchbox Lunch Program</h2>We will be using Lunchbox for our Lunch Program for efficiency of ordering and delivering. Although you are welcome to create an account and explore the <a href="https://www.lunchboxorders.net/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" class="editor-link">www.lunchboxorders.net</a> site now, please remember that class placements may change in the month of September as it requests a teacher name when you register. We are currently working with Lunchbox to source vendor and food options for Mondays. We have Edo Japan (bowls and sushi) on Wednesdays and Gino's (pizza and chicken fingers) on Fridays). Milkshake days can still be ordered on School Day at this time.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Food Share Program</h2>We will be offering the Food Share Program to all of our classes. All students can access this program. Please reach out if your student has dietary restrictions. More information will follow about Grade 7 & 8 students leaving school property for lunch and the Grade 6-8 breakfast program. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">School Supplies</h2>Classroom supplies are provided to all students Kindergarten through Grade 8. Students will need to bring food for two 20 minute nutrition breaks (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), a lunch bag/box, a backpack, and indoor shoes. Indoor shoes are necessary to keep our classrooms clean. Outdoor shoes are not allowed to be worn in the gym for the safety of staff and students. Check the weather in the morning for appropriate dress for the day.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Service Dogs</h2>Only service dogs are allowed on school property - this is standard practice across the Limestone District School Board in order to keep you, your dog, and staff and students safe. Owners with dogs without visible identification will be asked to leave school property. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. School Advisory Council (SAC) elections for Executive Positions are coming up very soon! The first SAC Council Meeting of the 2025-2026 school year and Elections will take place on Wednesday, September 17th at 5:30 pm. The elections will take place first in the Learning Commons with the SAC meeting following afterwards. O'Connor Awards recognize excellence in education as provided by support staff throughout the district. This award was established to recognize support staff in the following categories: Clerical and Secretarial, Educational Services Staff, Educational Assistants, and Central Office Support Staff. McLeod was the Director of Education for the former Lennox and Addington County Board of Education from 1969 to 1983. He recognized and rewarded excellence in teaching throughout his time as Director, and on his retirement, he established a fund to continue this focus. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of individual teachers to classroom instruction or the improvement of classroom instruction, over several years. It is presented annually to one teacher in elementary, and one teacher in secondary. I am pleased to provide you with my update tonight as we enter the last ten days of the 2024-2025 school year.June is always a time of reflection as we complete one school year and continue preparations for the next school year. It is a time of change as we see students graduate from secondary school, staff retire, and many staff and students prepare for transitions. It is also a time of celebration across the system as students graduate and enjoy end-of-year activities and celebrations. We were able to enjoy some celebrations this evening with the annual Limestone Staff Awards. This evening, we heard and saw, some great examples of people focused on doing the very best they can to support students and learning in LDSB.In recent weeks and months, many graduating Limestone students have received significant scholarships and admissions to universities, colleges, and apprenticeships or have developed work plans for next year. I would be remiss to not mention the fact that Student Trustee Bukhari deserves to be recognized for being a TD Scholarship recipient, and the Trustee Laurie French Student Leadership Award from the Community Foundation for Lennox and Addington. Congratulations Student Trustee Bukhari. With secondary graduations just over a week away, I know Trustees and senior staff can look forward to hearing the plans of LDSB grads at those celebrations and honouring the graduates of 2025.I would also like to highlight for Trustees the tremendous success Limestone athletes experienced at the provincial finals in Track and Field. Wyatt Lee from FSS won gold in the Senior Boys 100m and 200m, Athena Andrecyk from KSS won gold in the Senior Girls 3000m, and the Junior Girls 4x100m relay team from KSS also won gold. That team consisted of Caitlyn Wimmer, Mara Barrow-McLagan, Amaya Barrow-McLagan and Marina Playter-Tuffs. Limestone students also won two silver medals and four bronze medals. I should note that the LSS Senior Boys won provincial AA gold. I should also note that LSS and KSS hosted provincial soccer championships. Congratulations to these winners and all of the other LDSB athletes who participated in the provincial finals.In reflecting on the 2024-2025 school year, or any other school year, I think it is important to again remember Kathy Freston’s wise words: “The goal is progress, not perfection.” In education, the stakes are always high for each learner, and there is always more we can do to serve each student. While there is always much to celebrate, there is also always room for improvement in realizing our LDSB intention of making a positive difference in the lives of every student, in every classroom, in every school.Given June is National Indigenous History Month, and Saturday is National Indigenous Peoples Day, Trustees should be aware that there are a range of activities occurring in the community this weekend, and at Confederation Park. This information has been shared with schools.As Trustees are aware, June is also Pride month, and like the last few years, Limestone formally participated in the fourth annual Napanee Pride Parade earlier this month, which was a great success, and we also had a very strong presence this past weekend for the Kingston Pride Parade. We must continue to take a strong stance in support of human rights, and against hate in the communities we serve.In closing, I want to offer my congratulations to all students graduating from Limestone and to staff entering their last ten days of work with Limestone. There is much to be proud of in Limestone and I have a great deal of gratitude and humility in serving as its Director. Thank you also to the Board of Trustees for your continued collaboration, strong support of public education, and advocacy. While all of us around this table may not always agree on everything, I think we can all be proud of the way we conduct ourselves and work together for the betterment of Limestone students. During this event, we had a number of school groups coming in to host tables with some arts, crafts, and games, as well as community organizations like the Kingston Public Library. We were also thrilled to have the Queens Faculty of Education GSA come in, as well as Kingston Youth Pride, and LDSB’s Alyssa Vernon who did some collaging with guests. Student-run booths included face painting, flag painting, bracelet and keychain making, and more. It was such an amazing experience to see all of the students and families coming together to enjoy an evening of celebration to kick off Pride Month. We would like to extend a big thank you to all of the community members who came in, staff who helped support the event, the KSS custodial team for helping set up, and all of the students who helped make the event possible and the great success it was!We also had Pat Vanderholst do a PD session on Indigenous land teachings, with a tour around Lake Ontario Park, sharing different teachings connected to the land. Limestone Celebrates Pride Month

Throughout June, the LDSB Education Centre and all schools across our district are proudly recognizing Pride Month in KFL&A by flying the Progress Pride Flag. This flag represents our ongoing commitment to inclusive education and creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected. It guides schools in tracking progress, creating action plans, and improving learning outcomes. Launched in October 2022, the reporting tool helps students, parents, caregivers, and staff report human rights issues within our board, with the aim to create a welcoming school environment by addressing discrimination and harassment. <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/student-human-rights-reports-2023-2024-school-year" class="editor-link">A summary of the Human Rights Report is available on our website</a>.  On March 27, 2025, the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) launched <a href="https://www3.ohrc.on.ca/en/tackling-anti-black-racism-and-discrimination-education#:~:text=The%20Dreams%20Delayed%3A%20Addressing%20Systemic,the%20Ontario%20Human%20Rights%20Code." class="editor-link">Dreams Delayed, an Action Plan to fight anti-Black racism and discrimination in Ontario's public schools</a>. The plan was created with input from Black students, educators, and community members and includes 29 specific actions for the Ministry of Education, school boards, and other education professionals to follow.Many of the calls to action in the Dreams Delayed Action Plan are ones that have either been already put in place or we continue to work on in Limestone. As a school board, we have taken strides towards addressing discrimination and harassment, but there is still much more work to do to remove disparities within our district.The LDSB is committed to creating an inclusive and fair school experience for every student, and the insights from our <a href="https://filerequestpro.com/up/ldsb-student-human-rights-incidents-and-complaints--school-safety-reporting-form" class="editor-link">Human Rights Reporting Tool</a>, the OHRC Dreams Delayed Action Plan, and our planned fall 2025 student census will guide ongoing efforts to improve the system and support each student effectively. Host an International Student – Be a Part of Kingston’s Global CommunityLimestone is proud of a long tradition of hosting students from other countries, and with the demand for Kingston and Canada as a learning destination is rapidly expanding, we are looking to expand our program. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families in Limestone. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to international students.We currently have seven students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for the 2025-2026 school year and need a home. They range from one semester to one-year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, and Denmark.Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old.
